Fixed braces are made by securing brackets to the teeth, with a specialized glue. These can be made from metal, plastic or ceramic. Once these are in place, we attach a flexible wire to the brackets, which is tightened to help shift teeth into the correct position over time.
On average, treatment with fixed braces lasts 18 to 24 months, with 6 to 12 weekly check ups to monitor progress and adjust braces when needed. This ensures continuous functioning of the braces, because we aren’t wearing them for fun. We want results.
These are as standard, a mix of high grade medical stainless steel and small amounts of other metals, which appear silver in colour. To personalise, we have an array of coloured bands that can be changed at each appointment. These are the elastics that hold the wire on to the brackets.
Other variations of fixed braces can be found in ‘Specialty Braces’ and ‘clear braces’.
